Setting Up the Rat Habitat
When my kit arrived, I was eager to set up the habitat for my two baby girls! The cage and accessories had minimal assembly required.
First, I secured the platforms and ramps in place with the provided hardware. I made sure to position the ramps at gradual angles to allow easy climbing access between levels.
Next, I added the hammock, wood houses, and plastic tunnels throughout the cage so my rats would have cozy napping spots and areas to explore.
I filled the food bowl with Oxbow Rat Food and hung the water bottle on the outside of the cage. Then I spread a layer of soft shredded aspen bedding on the cage floor.
The whole set up process took less than 30 minutes and the included instructions were clear and easy to follow.
Introducing My Rats to Their New Home
Once the habitat was fully prepped, it was time to bring home my baby ratties, Pip and Dot! I introduced them into the cage one at a time so they could get acclimated.
At first, they cautiously sniffed around and explored every corner of their new environment. Within minutes, their natural curiosity took over and they were climbing the ramps and playing with the accessories.
I was thrilled to see them scamper into the hammock for a cuddle and start enthusiastically munching on their Oxbow food!
